A Desi Pub in West Bromwich
The desi pub belongs to the Black Country. It is one of the few genuinely original things British food culture has produced, and West Bromwich is where a lot of people first met it. Legends is our go at it, opening soon on the High Street.
What a desi pub actually is
A bar that serves cold beer, shows the football and sends out plates of charcoal grilled lamb and chicken that would hold their own in any restaurant in the country. No starched tablecloths. No hush. Just very good food in a room where people are enjoying themselves loudly.
The Black Country has been doing this for forty years. We grew up in these rooms.
What we kept and what we changed
We kept the fire, the generosity of the portions and the noise on a Saturday. We changed the lighting, the seating and the bar, because there is no rule saying a desi pub has to be uncomfortable.
The food goes first. Everything that can be cooked over charcoal is, from lamb chops to seekh kebabs to the mixed grill. The bar is properly stocked and stays open past the kitchen.

Do I need to book?
Not on a quiet weeknight. For Friday, Saturday and any big fixture, booking is worth the minute it takes.
Is there a bar as well as a restaurant?
Yes, a proper one. It stays open past the kitchen, which is the point of the place.
Is it family friendly?
Yes, earlier in the day and evening. It gets louder and later on weekends, which suits some groups more than others.
