Mixed Grill in Birmingham
Birmingham has plenty of places doing a mixed grill. Fewer are still doing it over real charcoal. Ours comes out sizzling with everything cooked to order.
The plate
Lamb seekh kebab, chicken tikka, tandoori wings and fish pakora on the small board. The medium is the same, built bigger. The large brings lamb chops and king prawns in as well.
Charcoal, not gas
Most kitchens moved to gas because it is faster, cheaper and far less trouble. The trade is flavour, and on lamb that trade is obvious. We kept the charcoal and accepted the slower service that comes with it.
Where to find us
30 Mary Ann St, Birmingham, B3 1RL, in the Jewellery Quarter. Walkable from Snow Hill, St Paul Square and the tram.
Make it a night
The bar runs on past the kitchen, so a mixed grill does not have to be the end of the evening. The smokehouse is worth a look too, with brisket and ribs smoked for twelve hours. That side runs at this venue only.
